In many ways, Directions is a stage that constantly changes- different sets, different players, different stories. We feel so fortunate to meet, to share, to learn from everything and everyone that sets foot on this stage.  An inspiring teacher has said: 

Roger Prestegard grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated with a degree in English Literature. In 1967 he came to Siskiyou County, a young man with a passion for teaching and a desire to try his hand at ranching.

In 1972 he realized another dream of opening a retail business, Directions Ltd., in Yreka, California. Set in the red brick building in the historic downtown, the mix of plants, housewares and kitchen products, baskets, educational toys, soaps, coffees and teas was a first for the county.

In 1981 Roger opened a second store in Mt. Shasta called “New Directions”.  Jane entered Roger’s life, bringing her ceramic tile store into the mix of new family and business. In the mid 80’s, they simplified their lives by consolidating into one store location in Mt. Shasta, now called “Directions.”

The store has continued to evolve over its 35 years to become an established source for women’s apparel, accessories, jewelry, and gifts and home accents.

It’s been a journey!  Roger passed on in 2004 and Jane, mindful of Roger’s vision and spirit, continues the tradition of Directions. She is also clear about her own vision. Attuned to the tastes of Direction’s clientele, Jane now fills the store with her love of color, texture, design and style. Her coworkers Peg, Lill, Judy, and Leslee bring their own talents, energy, creativity and enthusiasm to enliven the store.
